Welcome to the Distance Education Veterinary Technology Program
If you are a new preceptor let us take the opportunity to thank you for your willingness to serve in this capacity. If you are a continuing preceptor, thank you for your continued participation in the DEVTP program. We realize that all preceptors are busy and it is a significant responsibility that you are undertaking. Let us assure you that you are helping our students further their education, and the rewards that they receive from this program will come back to you as well. Your clinic or hospital will benefit from their educational experience and training, and perhaps you may also learn or relearn some valuable lessons in the process.
New Preceptors should be aware of the following:
- We strongly recommend that you go through this site and read the information carefully. New Preceptors are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the Preceptor orientation materials on the web and then call the office if you have questions or concerns at 877-353-3482.
- Posted on our web site in the “Preceptors” section is a schedule of the lessons that your student will be expected to complete along with a specific timeline for completion. Please review the schedule and sit down with your student to set up specific times to complete these lessons. Also, please take note of the supervision that is required for each lesson.
- Students may complete their assignments anytime during the week, but they must stay on a weekly schedule of completing their assignments.
- Students in Level 1, 2, and 3, courses will take their written exams on-line, and do not need to be proctored during these exams. You will still need to supervise and assist with clinical assignments.
- Preceptors may also request access to their students course site so they may better understand the course and requirements and help with any questions that may arise concerning the assignments. To request access you can call the DEVTP office at 877-353-3482 and request the students ID login and password.
